Alan Carr

Middlesbrough Town Hall has bagged its second comedy coup in less than a week – after TV superstar Alan Carr today confirmed a brand new date at the venue on Tuesday 9 August.

Alan will be road-testing new material for his forthcoming arena tour, and box office phones are expected to be red-hot when tickets for this exclusive preview show go on sale at 10am this Friday morning (24 June).

The star of Channel 4’s ‘Alan Carr Chatty Man’ and ‘Alan Carr’s Celebrity Ding-Dong,’ Alan will be giving Teesside comedy fans a first glimpse of his new show as he previews new material for his forthcoming ‘Spexy Beast’ 33-date UK and Ireland arena tour.

From winning BBC New Comedy Award for Best Stand-up in 2001, to rubbing shoulders with A-Listers on his own chat show, Alan is without doubt one of the hottest comedy stars in Britain.

Described as the ‘spiritual son of Frankie Howerd,’ Alan’s formative years were spent working in a supermarket as well as a call centre for lost and stolen credit cards.

He wowed a packed Boro crowd after his last Town Hall visit sold-out in double quick time – and this brand new show sees Alan returning to his award-winning stand-up roots for the first time in over four years.

Laura Hannaway of Midlesbrough Town Hall said: “We absolutely can’t wait for this one! It’s a huge coup for us to bring Alan here to give Teesside comedy fans a sneak preview of his brand new material.

“He’s a huge star these days, and it’s very rare that anyone will get the chance to see him in such an intimate setting. The box office staff are bracing themselves for a busy couple of days!”

The news follows hot on the heels of Sarah Millican adding an unprecedented third date for her brand new show on Wednesday 15 February next year by huge public demand, after both her forthcoming dates on 23 & 24 October sold in double-quick time.

Graham Ramsay of promoters Ten Feet Tall said: “The autumn calendar’s really starting to take shape and hopefully we should have some more shows to announce in the coming weeks.”

The new shows continue a star-studded comedy schedule at the Town Hall over the last few years – with top names including Omid Djalili, Dave Gorman, Jason Byrne, Jimeoin, Tom Stade and rising star Daniel Sloss already confirmed for the Town Hall’s growing autumn and winter season.
