Entries are being invited for an awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of the area’s black and minority ethnic communities.

The 2011 Tees Valley BME Achievement Awards ceremony and dinner will be held at Middlesbrough’s Thistle Hotel on Friday, September 16.

Entries close shortly - nominations must be received by this Friday, September, 2.

The awards are a celebration and recognition of the wealth of achievement and talent across the BME Communities of Teesside and the surrounding areas.

The evening will feature a drinks reception and international meal followed by speeches, entertainment and the presentation of awards.

This year’s categories include youth, community, business, housing sector

woman of the year, public sector, education and a lifetime achievement award.

BME Network Co-ordinator Idrees Rashid said: “Last year’s inaugural BME Achievement awards were a huge success and this year’s event aims to build on that foundation.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to show our appreciation of the individuals and groups who make a huge contribution to life to this area and the region as a whole, but whose work can go unsung.

“The evening puts those people in the spotlight - the talented and committed individuals who have helped make this region what it is today and who continue to make a difference, day in day out.

“We have a truly multi-cultural and harmonious community and I hope people will take the time to nominate those who they feel have made the greatest contribution to making that dream a reality.”
