Bradley Creswick

Classical music fans are in for another great night at Middlesbrough Town Hall, with an eagerly anticipated third visit in quick succession by Northern Sinfonia on Tuesday 6 March.

Widely regarded as one of Europe’s finest orchestras, the Sinfonia’s latest Town Hall show comes hot on the heels of the worldwide release of a live album recorded with former Mavericks frontman Raul Malo. (album released on Mon 6 Feb).

Now, thanks to funding from Arts Council England, the Sinfonia’s March date featuring works by Mozart and Mendelssohn promises to match their memorable world premiere of David Golightly’s Middlesbrough Symphony in September, closely followed by another rapturous Town Hall visit just before Christmas.

Having worked alongside music big-hitters including Sting and the Pet Shop Boys, the Sinfonia are also a firm favourite at some of the major concert halls of Europe including The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, The Philharmonie in Berlin, and The Musikverein in Vienna.

The Sinfonia’s inspirational violinist and leader Bradley Creswick has also led two of the great London orchestras in a landmark career – The Philharmonia and the Royal Opera House Orchestra – and he’ll be joined centre stage tonight by viola section leader Michael Gerrard as twin soloists for Mozart’s embracing Sinfonia Concertante.

Laura Hannaway from Middlesbrough Town Hall said: “We’re very lucky to have one of Europe’s finest orchestras virtually on our doorsteps. And, if their previous visits are anything to go by, we’re looking forward to another absolutely fantastic night in March.”
