Boro Becks Team

Members of the public are being urged to help give Middlesbrough’s beautiful becks a big Spring clean.

The Boro Becks Team has organised weekly litter picks along four of Middlesbrough’s becks every Wednesday throughout March.

The four becks are Marton West Beck, Ormesby Beck, Middle Beck and Spencer Beck.

The Boro Becks Team, along with their hard-working Volunteer Rangers and representatives from local businesses, will be on hand to help residents keep their becks tidy.

Barry Jobson, Becks Ranger, said “The becks are great places to visit, but sadly do become litter traps.

“Now that the leaves have fallen from trees and vegetation has died back that litter becomes easier to see, and makes the becks look messy.

“With all the windy weather we have had recently, lots of extra rubbish has blown onto the becks and so they do need a good spring clean.”

“The becks are wonderful green spaces right on people’s doorsteps, and residents can always do their bit to keep them tidy by taking home their rubbish or dropping it into a litter bin”.

Sam Granger, sustainability co-ordinator for Fabrick Housing Group, one of the local businesses helping with this project, said: “We are proud to be supporting the Boro Becks project by encouraging our staff and customers to take part, as we are committed to protecting the environment and supporting the sustainability of our local communities”.

The litter pick events will take place on the following dates:

  • Marton West Beck – March 7, 10:30-12. Meet at Sutton House, corner of Sutton Way and Collin Avenue.
  • Ormesby Beck – March 14, 10:30-12. Meet at Park End Community Centre, Overdale Road.
  • Middle Beck – March 21, 10:30-12. Meet at Charlbury Road Community Centre.
  • Spencer Beck – March 28, 10:30-12. Meet at Thorntree Community Centre, Birkhall Road.

Free refreshments will be provided after each litter pick.

Please wear suitable clothing and footwear for the weather. Gloves and tools will be provided.
