Teesside comedy fans have another huge treat in store, with legendary Canadian stand-up Stewart Francis today confirmed to play Middlesbrough Town Hall with his brand new show on Thursday 8 November.
Stewart moved to the UK from his native ‘Canadia’ three years ago, and instantly wowed millions of TV comedy fans with barnstorming appearances on BBC’s Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo and Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow.
His brand of killer one-liners quickly earned him rapturous acclaim and a support spot on Ricky Gervais’ record-breaking Science tour.
Stewart said: “It was interesting to travel around the world for the better part of a year in that elite world he lives in. I’m a huge fan of The Office, so it was nice to be in the presence of genius. His words, not mine.”
Looking forward to his brand new show, Outstanding in His Field, Stewart said: “I’d like to dedicate my performance to my father who was a roofer. So dad, if you’re up there.”
Stewart also loves life this side of the pond, but has noticed some of our oddest pastimes along the way: “What’s the deal with trainspotters? I spotted 47 of the losers the other day.”
The new show adds to an already tempting comedy line-up at Middlesbrough Town Hall – with more top shows set to be confirmed over the coming weeks.
The hugely popular Big Mouth Comedy Club continues to bring some of the freshest comics on the circuit to packed crowds at the Town Hall Crypt on the first Saturday of each month - and upcoming touring shows include Reginald D Hunter (26 Feb), Patrick Monahan (23 March), Jon Richardson (15 April), Jason Cook (18 May), Rich Hall (19 May), Jimmy Carr (1 June & 10 November) and Kevin Bridges (17 October).
