Lions face pre-season double header this Sunday

On Sunday, Middlesbrough Lions welcome Killamarsh Archers and Derby Aces to Eston Sports Academy as they look to make a good impression with back to back games.
Both visiting teams, making the journey from Derbyshire, will prove a good test for the Lions. Killamarsh Archers are a newly formed team who have entered the National Founders Cup this season whilst Derby Aces boast a collection of players from National League side Derby Arrows but will also have a number of guest players and trialists on court.
Middlesbrough Lions are looking to find their feet and their new look team boasts four new signings on the roster for the 2012/13 season. One of the big names is Marcos Lopez who arrived a couple of weeks ago from Arizona, USA. Lopez provides a safe pair of hands at the point guard position and possesses rapid pace. He can shoot and drive and is certain to become a fans favourite. Manny Popoola is another exciting signing. Popoola is a talented, strong and athletic guard with great composure at both ends of the court.
6ft 8” forward/centre; Liam Barron is a very agile and skilful player who has had experience playing in the states while Sam Morgan completes the new boys line up. Sam has a hard work ethic and is a strong rebounder despite his size will be looking to make a mark in the team.
Huge 6’11 Centre Shane Beadle is on trial at the club and will be looking to prove his value and all in all the Lions will be looking to capitalise on the opportunity to see what the new guys have and gel with the existing squad.
Although Middlesbrough have looked to compliment their roster with several new signings, head coach James Thomson is still awaiting on a few members of the squad to arrive for the start of the regular season and there are other targets which coach Thomson will be looking to secure in the near future.
All these players will be playing in this Sunday’s back to back match up with Killamarsh and Derby. Both games will be played at Eston Sports Complex, Normanby Road, Middlesbrough TS6 9AE. Tickets £4 Adults, £3 Children and £12 for a Family Ticket (2 Adults, 2 Children) plus there is a special offer for this weekend’s games only one ticket for both games!
It doesn’t seem that long ago when Middlesbrough were celebrating promotion last season, yet the new campaign is now underway with a host of pre season friendlies to tantalise the fans and prepare the squad. A week on Sunday will see the visit of Hull Wasps to Eston for a 4pm tip.
