middlesbrough roller derby recruiting new members

The start of a new year often means the start of a new fitness regime for many of us, and one great way to do that is to take up a new sport. Middlesbrough Roller Derby could be able to provide you with the challenge you need.

Roller Derby is a fast paced team sport played on roller skates, it's challenging, tactical and a lot of fun. Middlesbrough Roller Derby are opening their doors on 10th January to women in the area who would like to give it a go.

Ella Storey, co-captain and player for team England said “Middlesbrough Roller Derby is a small league that has done some incredible things. We're a team of friendly, supportive ladies who want to get fit and have fun together playing a sport that we love”

Middlesbrough Roller Derby have indeed done some incredible things, in the 2017 season they not only won the top tier of the British championships, but also for the first time in their ten year history, they played in the Division 2 Play-off tournament in Pittsburgh against teams from around the world.

Ella added “The league has done some amazing things, but in order to continue, we need to grow, we are currently trying to build up our B-team, but for this we need more people to learn to play!”

Middlesbrough Roller Derby's experienced coaches will help to teach anyone who wants to have a go everything they need to know, from getting going on skates to the finer points of the game. If being a star on the track isn't for you, there are also opportunities to get involved as an official or referee.

Kirsty Lawton, one of the minimum skills coaches said “When I started with Middlesbrough I hadn't worn skates for years, I was like Bambi on ice! We will teach you everything, right from the basics of how to stand up, to stopping and falling properly. We even provide you with the kit.

"It's a great way to get out, try a new hobby, get fit and meet some awesome people"

New potential players can find out more by visiting the league's facebook page facebook.com/middlesbroughRD or email the league with their shoe size and size for knee, elbow and wrist pads and helmet on recruitment.middlesbroughrd@gmail.com
