About the event...

Richard Clayton has spent over 40 years photographing ‘over the border’ in Middlesbrough. The exhibition will show a selection of his work from this period, and offers a fascinating glimpse into the changes that have taken place in the area over the last half century.

‘Over the border’ is the name given to St Hilda’s (it’s the oldest part of Middlesbrough and used to be the centre). Now known as Middlehaven, the area is home to the Transporter Bridge, Middlesbrough Football Club and Anish Kapoor’s Temenos sculpture. The painter L.S. Lowry painted the Old Town Hall and St Hilda’s church in 1959. The transformations have been profound since then.

Also on show are photographs of Stockton, Middlesbrough and Holme Farm.
